DANGEROUS PEACHES FROM SERBIA HAVE RETURNED TO MONTENEGRO: Magic is unleashed, harmful to health, especially for children!
** The border inspection with Serbia, at the Dobrakovo crossing point, prevented the import of almost ten tons of peaches and nectarines from Serbia. A pesticide dangerous to human health, especially children - chlorpyrifos, was found in the fruits, confirmed Vladimir Djakovic, director of the Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Administration, to the RTCG portal.
** This pesticide was found in plums imported from Serbia to Croatia, as reported by regional media. When asked about the presence of this dangerous pesticide in Montenegro, Djaković said that its use is strictly prohibited, but recently, almost ten tons of stone fruits containing this substance were detected during imports. These are two disputed shipments, both from Serbia.
"This pesticide is very dangerous and strictly prohibited in Montenegro, and I confidently state that we do not have it. Manufacturers do not use it for food purposes. However, with imports, the situation is different - at the Dobrakovo checkpoint, about ten tons of peaches and nectarines with this pesticide were found, and they were all returned," Djaković explained to the RTCG portal."
He said that tests are being conducted on all consumer fruits - peaches, plums, nectarines, and apricots. "We conduct tests on400 pesticide residues, which is a huge volume.
This pesticide is commonly used to protect palm and other plants, but it cannot be used in food because it is harmful to human health, especially children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States has indicated that after contact with chlorpyrifos, consumers may experience various effects on the nervous system such as headache, vision impairment, increased salivation, seizures, and in extreme cases, depending on the amount and duration of exposure, even coma and death.
*This pesticide was found in plums sent from Serbia to Croatia, as confirmed by the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed. The fruits were not imported into Croatia and, reportedly, were destroyed. In Croatia and many other countries, the pesticide chlorpyrifos was legally used until2006, but since then it has been banned for treating fruits and vegetables in most EU countries. Recently, this pesticide was also found in peaches from Serbia.*
At the beginning of last month, a high level of carcinogenic acrylamide was detected in chips at the Croatian border, which were also sent from Serbia. In Montenegro, as reported by the Food Safety Administration at the time, such chips were not found.
