The Greek coffee shop Coffee Berry has opened its first branch in Saudi Arabia at the Hayat Mall in Riyadh.
Currently, this coffee chain with over 200 locations in Athens has signed a franchise agreement to launch in Saudi Arabia in 2022 and announced plans to open at least 20 stores in the kingdom in the coming years.
Coffee Berry joins Starbucks, Tim Hortons, M&S Café, and Paul bakery café in the shopping mall.
The coffee brand Coffee Berry was founded in 2003 as a wholesale coffee company and opened its first coffee shop in 2016 in the trendy city of Glyfada in Athens.
The coffee chain also began its international expansion in 2016 with the opening of a location in Cyprus, where it currently has 78 stores.
In 2019, Coffee Berry also entered the Egyptian market and currently operates seven stores in this North African country, mainly in the capital, Cairo.
The Athens coffee shop announced that its debut in Saudi Arabia will be a precursor to further expansion into new markets in Europe and the Middle East.
The market for branded coffee shops in Saudi Arabia, which has 3,600 locations, is the largest in the Middle East, and research from the World Coffee Portal predicts that by 2027, their number will exceed 5,350.
Coffee Berry has become the third Greek coffee shop to enter the Saudi Arabian market, following Mikel Coffee Company and Coffeebrands, which currently operate seven and three stores respectively.
