Acquisition of the Clooney wine estate in Provence: true or not?

The hero of the amusing news was actor George Clooney and his wife Amal. According to the mayor of the city of Brignolles, Didier Brunon, the residents are thrilled at the prospect of Clooney appearing in their neighborhood.

The actor has acquired a huge wine estate Domaine du Canadel in Provence. This winery estate covering about170 hectares includes a mansion, a swimming pool, a tennis court, a park with a lake and an olive grove, as well as10 hectares of vineyards. The estate is worth €7 million.

It is important to note that the estate is just a half-hour drive away from the famous Château Miraval, where the former spouses Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie run their wine business. Nearby, there is also the Château Margüi castle, owned by George Lucas.

Didier Brumont confidently stated that George Clooney's visit could bring a lot of benefits to the city: "New horizons are opening up for us with George Clooney." The president of the region's winemakers association, Eric Lambert, said that thanks to the purchase of a property in the area, Clooney will definitely become a new ambassador for the wine region.

It is worth noting that the actor bought this estate more for rest and relaxation, but perhaps he even crystallized the idea of continuing the winemaking tradition.

After all, in 2017, Clooney, along with his partners, sold his tequila brand Casamigos for $1 billion to the British company Diageo. Before that, the wine from the Domaine du Canadel estate was sold through the Brignoles winemakers' cooperative.

However, recent news has emerged about another potential buyer who claims to have signed a contract to purchase the estate back in August 2021 for €6 million, prior to Clooney's deal. The buyer has sued the previous owners of the estate, stating that the transaction was invalid.

The plaintiff's lawyer, Guy Azarri, stated that the court's decision could take several months. He also added that if the property was sold to a second buyer, in this case George Clooney, it would be in question until the court's ruling, which could take from one to four years.

Despite this, there is no suspicion that Clooney was aware of the previous buyer's claims or that he engaged in any wrongdoing. Unfortunately, the likelihood of Clooney creating his own champagne in the near future is quite low.
