Savannah home sold for nearly $6.2 million, a record for the city's historic district
A historic Greek Renaissance mansion in Savannah, Georgia, has sold for $6.167 million, making it the most expensive home ever sold in the city's historic district. The mansion is approximately 10,565 square feet in size. It was put on the market in July 2022 for $7.25 million, according to the ad. In January, the price was reduced by $500,000, which was the final price. Friday's deal was the second most expensive in the entire city, second only to chef Paula Deen's former home on Wilmington Island, which sold for $6.82 million in 2020.
This stately home, built in 1903, has a circular veranda where guests and residents can sit outside, surrounded by Corinthian columns, according to an ad by real estate agents Ridley Stallings and Melissa Hall Rowan of Corcoran Austin Hill Realty. "The unique combination of historical significance, architectural beauty and prime location are just some of the factors that make this property special and allow it to achieve a record sale price," the agents said in an email, adding that the property "is emblematic of what makes Savannah so special." This mansion also sits across from Forsyth Park in Savannah and is the only private home that overlooks the park's famous fountain. "Being the only private residence overlooking the famous Forsyth Park fountain, one of Savannah's most famous symbols, gives this property an exceptional and coveted position in the city," the agents added.

There are carved wood details and exquisite plaster molding throughout the home. Immediately upon entry is an Italian marble fireplace surrounded by Ionic columns, carved wood heads can be found throughout the home, as well as fancy plaster molding. On the first floor are the living room and dining room with an arched window overlooking the sun room. Upstairs are four spacious bedrooms and three bathrooms, and there is a two-room carriage house where the tenants currently live.
"Overall, the sale of this great property highlights the appeal of unique, historic and architecturally significant homes with modern amenities and a great location that you won't find anywhere but historic downtown Savannah," said the agents. Mansion Global was unable to determine how much the property last sold for or when. The owners were not available for comment.
