Project of aviation neighborhoods in France: A residential area with airplanes in the garage.

Apparently France is gearing up to develop a new residential community that plans to surprise everyone with its concept. The new residential development, located at Chalais airport in the south of Charente, will offer the possibility of aircraft parking right on the territory of each plot, as well as direct access to the taxiway to the runway.

Rachel Martin, the chief developer of the project, confirmed that there is a demand for such homes, and it's not surprising. There are only a few similar projects in France that allow aircraft owners to store their planes in garages at home. The first such residential complex was built in Vendée in Talmont-Saint-Hilaire and opened in 1966. Similar complexes also exist in Biscarrosse (Landes) and Gajoubert Air Park (Haute-Vienne).

Although construction work on the new settlement began back in 2017, the first buyers will only be able to start building their homes by 2024 due to various delays.

The latest obstacle is that the environmental study required to obtain a building permit will take a whole year.

Although Chalais Airport is owned by a local nursing home and is currently mainly used by a local flying club, there are plans to create a hangar for the repair and maintenance of aircraft. The new residential complex will not affect the airport's status as open to public air traffic.

Mr. Martin is confident in the project's success, considering the number of private pilots in the country exceeds 105,000. He also emphasizes the environmental aspect of the residential complex, which will meet eco-building standards and minimize energy consumption.

The price of the houses in the new village has not yet been finalized, but they are expected to cost between €300,000 and €700,000, depending on the buyers' requirements. Aircraft allowed to be stored on the residential estate must not exceed a weight of 5.5 tons, and commercial aviation operations will not be permitted.
