Provence welcomes George and Amal Clooney: new neighbors!
George and Amal Clooney are now officially the owners of the Domaine du Canadel estate, as announced by the mayor of Brignol, France, Didier Brumont this week.
"Welcome to Brignol! It is now official that George and Amal Clooney are residents of our beautiful community," he wrote. "I was able to meet them at their invitation at the Domaine du Canadel estate where they will soon be unpacking their suitcases. "
Mayor's office has confirmed to Wine Spectator magazine that the legal dispute over the sale of the Provence winemaking estate has been resolved and Hollywood celebrities have already begun moving into the beautiful 425-acre property located in the Var region.
In May, it was reported that another potential buyer claimed to have signed''s contract to buy the estate in August 2020 for a reported €6 million, before Clooney made his own agreement. The local prosecutor's office confirmed that a disgruntled buyer filed a lawsuit against the sellers at the Draguignan court in March, challenging the deal. The plaintiff's lawyer, Guy Azzari, told French media that the case was likely to take several months to reach trial. There has been no indication that the Clooneys have been accused of any wrongdoing or were aware of any real estate fraud.
The Clooneys are now setting up their Provençal winter home, which includes a restored remarkable 18th century mansion, as well as a swimming pool, tennis court,''boules court, formal gardens, lake, olive grove and a 25-acre vineyard. The estate is a 30-minute drive from Chateau Miraval, co-owned by former couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. George Lucas's Chateau Margis is 20 minutes away.
The locals of Brignoles are excited about their new neighbors. "His arrival can do us a lot of good," said Brumont earlier this year. "With George Clooney, we are on a new level. "
