In the field of economics and real estate, Dursun Oğuz, who holds the position of the so-called "Minister of Internal Affairs" of occupied Cyprus, announced the introduction of new restrictions on the sale of land to foreigners. This statement was made during his visit to Ankara. In an interview with Kibris TV, Oğuz emphasized the importance of addressing the shortcomings in the current legislation and announced a plan requiring foreign citizens to submit applications to the "cabinet" along with security reports.

He expressed concern that the current system could be circumvented through opaque private agreements recorded in the land registry and noted the existing security threat that requires attention.

During his speech, Oguz also presented the upcoming measures, which include:

  • establishing deadlines for foreign buyers who have received approval from the "cabinet" to submit applications for property rights;
  • cancellation of the 51/49 participation scheme for companiesthat deprives foreigners of the opportunity to be both builders and sellers;
  • Restrictions on investments in the fields of tourism, education, and healthcare in certain areas with increased financial requirements.

These measures will make the acquisition of land a more controlled process from the perspective of the "cabinet".

Oguz also noted the urban development initiatives overseen by the so-called "Prime Minister" Unal Ustel, with a focus on the development of Famagusta. According to him, these measures are aimed at improving infrastructure and promoting more controlled and sustainable development in the region.

Overall, these restrictions are aimed at protecting the interests of the local population and preventing potential abuses in land relations, which underscores the current policy opposing foreign investments in occupied territories.
