"The market that sellers have been using for a long time has changed," recognized Edward Grimon, spokesman for the Council of State Notaries (CSN), at the annual press conference.

With the reduction in credit availability, buying became difficult, especially for first-time buyers. As for sellers, it took them a while to realize the decline in prices. Despite this gloomy picture, however, notaries believe in a (slow) revival in 2024, especially against the backdrop of spring, which usually favors transactions. "The clouds have become less threatening: lending rates have stopped rising and are even falling, inflation is fading and prices are falling," says Edouard Grimon.

A survey conducted by Harris interactive for CSN seems to back up what he says: 47% of French people have plans to move, including 62% of renters.
