Serbia will produce the electric Fiat Panda.
Fiat Panda electric will be produced in Kragujevac.
This was announced by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during a meeting in Belgrade with Prime Minister Giorgija Meloni.
The plant, which Fiat acquired in 2008 when Zastava ceased operations, will be the first "home" for an electric version of the city car.
Vucic went even further and said that Kragujevac could also assemble other models.
"The plant should become an engine of new investments in the automotive sector, where huge sums of money are used," Vucic said.
The electric version of the Fiat Panda, between two generations, is due to premiere on July 11, when Fiat celebrates 124 years of its history.
A major step beyond Italy.
The current Panda will be produced at Giambattista Vico's factory in Pomigliano d'Arco until 2026.
And then?
The national secretary of the Federation of Metalworkers and Machine Builders (Fim Cisl), Ferdinando Uliano, said, "The management of Stellantis has officially confirmed that another model will be assigned to the Campanian plant, without specifying which type we are talking about.
The Italian company registered the trademark Pandina last year, this could be a hint at the name.
Fiat Panda electric, which could later also be produced in Brazil and Morocco, is to be based on the Smart Car platform that debuted on the Citroën ë-C3.
Thanks to cheaper lithium-phosphate batteries (LFP), in the case of the French version it has a capacity of 44 kWh, with a range of up to 320 kilometers on the WLTP cycle and a car price from 23,900 euros.
The shape of the electric Fiat Panda should, at least in part, reflect the Centoventi concept that impressed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
