The cipher for the Cyprus operation was 'Ayşe went on vacation'.
72-year-old Cypriot veteran Mumin Olja, who took part in the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, recalls the days of yesteryear. Olja, who lost his wife 3 months ago, has 2 sons and 3 grandchildren.
His memories of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation were tearful. Olja, who was fascinated by the slogan, said: "The slogan of the Cyprus Operation was 'Ayshe has gone on vacation'.
Telling his life story, veteran Mumin Olja said:
I got married at the age of about 31. I was married for 47 years but lost my wife 3 months ago. I took part in the Cyprus Peace Operation of 1974 as part of the 14th Infantry Regiment from the Marasha Detachment. When I was involved in the operation, I was 20 years old, I was a young guy. Before going into the Cyprus operation, our troops were fully 100% ready.
July19 in the evening, a red alert was issued. We got ready and hit the road. The radio announced, "Aishe has gone on vacation," and celebrations were held in the streets. When I heard that Ayşe had gone on leave, I knew that the Cyprus Operation had begun.
When our unit numbers reached 100%, we left the 50th Infantry unit and went to the assembly area in Mersin. After a day's stay there, we were given ammunition and set off on the ship Ertugrul.
The slogan of the Cyprus operation was "Ayshe has gone on vacation." This phrase had meaning for us and now it is in our memory. After the surgery was over, I stayed there. I spent a year in Cyprus and quit.
The veteran Olca, referring to the compassion of the Turkish soldier, said:
We defend our honor by not touching civilians, children and the elderly like other enemy soldiers. We cover the needs of the women and others we have captured. Our lieutenant-doctor was constantly visiting the prisoners, making medicines, their treatment and care. At that time I saw the mercy of our army and how it is different from other military personnel. "Interested said: "49 years ago I left Cyprus with a life debt. "
Oldja, who dreamed of going to Cyprus with the troops as a young man, said: "In 1964 there was a rally because of Romanian atrocities in Cyprus. When I was 13 years old, I thought, "If I become a soldier, I will go to Cyprus." I dreamed of it and took part in the Cyprus Peace Operation. I never managed to enter Cyprus after the return of the soldier.
My debt to Cyprus has remained unpaid for 49 years. In order to settle this debt, my state must take me there for a visit or the Republic of Cyprus must give us the opportunity to do so. There are those who go there with the help of our forces, I would like to go when the opportunity happens. I don't want to go there on my own as a tourist, I want them to show us everything there is to see there within the opportunities given to us. I want to see our memories from there," he said.
