According to Notaires-Insee data published this morning at 8:45, prices of old residential properties (houses and apartments) in France (excluding Mayotte) fell by 1.1% in the third quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter. On a year-over-year basis, old property prices declined by 1.9% (adjusting for seasonal changes). In the previous quarter, residential real estate prices decreased 0.7% over the 3 months and increased 0.6% over the year.

It is important to note that this indicator is calculated by Notaires-Insee every quarter using a method developed by Insee in conjunction with Notaires-Insee. It is based on models that allow to estimate the value of a real estate object depending on its''characteristics.

Data on sales of old dwellings and their characteristics (area, number of rooms, type of rooms, etc.) are provided by notaries based on transactions completed during the quarter. The Notaires-Insee indices take into account the type of property (house or apartment) and the geographical area. They are then combined to obtain a national index.
