Social housing in Milan: an agreement for 200 economical apartments.
In the coming years, 200 affordable housing cases will be available for low-income families inMilan. A social housing project inMilan has received the first installment of funding from the European Investment Bank (BEI).
The Sarpi neighborhood redevelopment measures will create one of the first models of open, affordable and sustainable urban development, going beyond the old concept of public housing and urban agglomerations. An agreement has been reached, construction can proceed. Here's how the face of the city center will change, a stone's throw from Madunina.
What is social housing?
Social construction, in English "social housing", in the old Italian normative concept is related to subsidized, simplified or negotiated construction. Includes contracts and measures that provide housing for less affluent families. In recent years, the concept of social housing has been given a new lease of life, more responsive to climate change, new needs of residents and real estate. As well as public-private needs.

The Sarpi-Bramante-Niccolini project has received 34 million euros in funding to redevelop a neighborhood in northwestMilan, near a restricted traffic area. The plan calls for the construction and renovation of 200 new apartments that will be distributed through social housing in the future, providing low-income families with reduced rents. The funds allocated by BEI were given to the real estate company Ca' Granda, which is an investment fund managed by InvestiRE Sgr, precisely for the social housing project, with the participation of the Policlinico di Milano, the Investire per l'Abitare Foundation (FIA - Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Group, CDP) and the Cariplo Foundation.
What will social housing look like inMilan?
The urban regeneration plan involves demolition of housing and subsequent redevelopment with more advanced sustainable standards, energy efficient, socially oriented residents and modern services. A model that opens up access to quality housing for low-income families in a way that has not happened in long-standing public housing urban agglomerations. The project was designed by architects Barreca & square meters of residential areas with courtyards, commercial zones, green and recreational spaces. The real estate, granted and of rare value, has been accumulated over the centuries by the Polyclinic and is the result of a generously donated legacy by the people ofMilan.
For BEI, which has already undertaken similar projects in other European countries, this is the first social construction in Italy. For these projects, which are in line with the targets set by REPowerEU and the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, BEI expects to invest already 45 billion euros until 2027.
