PARIS - The organizers of the Paris Olympics have received a new sports campus for athletes on time, confirming their confidence in their readiness for the Games.

During a ceremony in northern Paris, chief organizer Tony Estanguet received a symbolic key to the complex in front of VIP guests including President Emmanuel Macron. "This is a demonstration that we are honoring our commitments," Macron told reporters, who afterward advised workers to be proud that they had delivered the sports campus "on time and on budget."

Organizers will develop the campus over the next four months, installing more than 300,000 pieces of furniture and décor before the first athletes arrive on July 18. The area consists of about 40 low-rise residential blocks and will include a 24-hour restaurant, an alcohol bar, a lounge area, and training areas.

The French state contributed 646 million euros ($700 million) in public funds, with the remainder contributed by France's largest real estate companies, which developed various plots of the 52-hectare area.

After the Olympics and Paralympics, one third of the 2,800 apartments will be sold to private owners, one third will be used for public housing, and the rest will be rented out, including to students.

Each building is different in design and façade color. "We wanted architectural diversity, which is a feature of European cities," Macron told Nicolas Ferrand, head of infrastructure group Solideo.

Saint-Saint-Denis is the poorest and most crime-ridden neighborhood in mainland France and is the target of investment from public funds for the Olympics.
