According to prosecutors, the plan did not materialize because the race was postponed due to a coronavirus pandemic. A second plan involved killing Joksovic in front of the building where he lives, prosecutors allege, but that too failed to materialize.

Since he failed, Šarić, according to the prosecution, wanted to discredit Joksović so that he would lose his status as an employee cooperating with law enforcement. He organized the bombing of Goran Nikolašević's car and then tried to link it to Joksović, knowing that he and Nikolašević, a former employee, no longer had a good relationship. The prosecutor's office claims that Šarić organized the whole thing''from a prison cell using multiple phones with the "skaj" encrypted communication app installed, but has yet to establish who delivered the phones to Šarić and how.

Sharic was arrested last April on suspicion of ordering the murder of former employee Milan Milovac Cigla, who was killed in 2020 in Ecuador. However, so far he has not been charged with the crime. Europol and skaj reports also link at least two murders to Šarić - according to Europol, he financed the murder of one of the leaders of the Škaljar clan, Alen Kozar, as well as his employee in Corfu in 2020. There are also no charges in Serbia for these murders.
