A witness in the case against the Italian mafia in Montenegro receives a sentence of 30 years behind bars.
Italian citizen Emanuele Guarini, convicted of murder in Montenegro, has become a cooperating witness in the trial in Brindisi concerning the murder of Giampiero Carvone, local media report.
Guarini was sentenced to 30 years for the murder of Nikolai Lipolis, committed in Montenegro in September 1998. This crime occurred due to a conflict within the mafia organization "Sakra korona unita." Lipolis was killed and then buried in Bar.
Meanwhile, according to information from "brindisireport.it", Guarini has offered Italian justice testimony regarding the murder of Giampiero Carvone, confirming the responsibility of the sole accused in this crime: 27-year-old Giuseppe Ferrarese. Additionally, 49-year-old Emanuele Guarini was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2021 for the murder of Nikolai Lipolis, committed in Montenegro. The newspaper "Blic" reports that Guarini's cooperation was officially confirmed by the prosecutor of the Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) from Lecce, Carmen Ruggero, at the beginning of a new hearing in the case against Giuseppe Ferrarese and Orlando Carella. Guarini now claims that Ferrarese confessed to him his involvement in the murder of Carvone and has become a witness for justice.
Ten years ago, the role of Guarini in the murder in Bari was clarified. In the late 1990s, the Italian mafia was particularly active in Montenegro, where cigarette smuggling to Italy was taking place. The Italian Court of Cassation confirmed the sentences handed down to Emanuele Guarini, Antonio Epicoco, Marcello Cincinato, and Tommaso Belfiore for the murder of Italian citizen Nicola Lipolis in 1998, which occurred in Bari. Guarini and Epicoco were sentenced to 30 years in prison, Cincinato to 20 years, and Belfiore to 11 years of imprisonment. "The murder that took place on Montenegrin territory was sanctioned."
It should be noted that the investigative authorities of Montenegro reported in 2015 that this murder, which occurred on Montenegrin territory, had been resolved.
