Tayyip Erdogan meets with Putin to discuss Cyprus
The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commented on his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that "the British are trying to put sticks in our wheels" in Cyprus.
Erdogan answered reporters' questions as he returned from the Russian city of Sochi, where he was on a one-day working visit at Putin's invitation. He said he discussed the Cyprus issue with Putin and expressed the view that relations between Britain and Russia are "completely opposite," adding, "On the one hand, they are also trying to put a stick in our wheels in Cyprus. "
Erdogan said that "Russia's stance on opening an office in Cyprus, developments in Cyprus and current events in the grain corridor clearly emphasize Turkey's weight in the region. "
In response to a question on how to perceive the coups in some African countries, as an awakening against colonialism or as a subversion of democracy, Erdogan said, "African countries have their own position. On the other hand, there are countries that are taking steps to subdue and stop countries that are in the process of revival.
