Trump is trying to oppose Biden in shadow diplomacy.

Donald Trump met with Polish President Andrzej Duda at Trump Tower in New York, one in a series of meetings with foreign dignitaries as the former Republican president campaigns for the White House in 2024. By hosting esteemed guests at his estate in Florida and courting leaders who are otherwise shunned as autocrats, Donald Trump is increasingly becoming a leader of shadow diplomacy, fundamentally contrasting with the actions of U.S. President Joe Biden.

A Republican magnate, in the unusual role of a former president running for the highest office again, has reached out to trusted figures both at home and abroad, trying to discredit some key priorities of Biden's foreign policy. Trump's supporters have blocked the delivery of billions of dollars in weapons to Ukraine for months, which the president promised to defend. Trump claimed that Biden's "weaknesses" contributed to Iran launching its major attack on Israel.

Polish President Andrzej Duda, a conservative who described the European Union as an "imaginary community from which we don't get much," met with the presidential candidate at Trump Tower in Manhattan on Monday.

"He has done a fantastic job, he is my friend, and we had four great years together," Trump said, standing alongside Duda in a video posted on his Truth Social account. "We can do it again."

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, the former Prime Minister who previously described Trump as "protectionist, xenophobic, and misogynistic," recently visited Trump's home in Mar-a-Lago to have dinner with him and advocate for aid to Ukraine. Cameron was an unusual figure for Trump. In March, Trump met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a staunch nationalist who has long dismissed the European Union's seriousness on issues important to Americans, such as migration. After that, Trump praised Orban on CNBC as a "tough guy" and for his "wonderful statement" that "we will solve the world's problems if Donald Trump comes back."
