Tufan Erhurman: Observations of Cypriot Turks in the car, Russians in real estate and Greeks in the supermarket.
The head of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), Tufan Erürman, participated in the "Sabah Postası" program hosted by Gökhan Altıner on Kıbrıs Postası TV and discussed the current situation. Eruerman said they have said many things since leaving power in 2019 because they have experience and offered their ideas.
"We should have a five-year long-term 'socio-economic cultural development program' to ensure predictability in the market," Erürman said, adding that his second proposal is to introduce a reserve fund to prevent the Turkish lira from plummeting if a protocol is signed with the Republic of Turkey. The reason for this proposal, according to Erürman, is the inability to control the use of the Turkish lira. He also said that their third proposal is to gradually move to an accounting system linked to a stable currency so that when sudden shocks occur, people's purchasing power will not deteriorate.
Erurman said that before the presidential election in Turkey, economists in Turkey said that "regardless of the outcome of the election, the dollar exchange rate will shoot up." He also emphasized that even if VAT is reduced, the market will not become cheaper as the Turkish lira has lost 7.5% of its value against all currencies. Eryurman also criticized Finance Minister Alishan Shan's statements that "there is no crisis, there is no economic crisis" and Prime Minister Unal Ustel's statement that "do not alarm the people, do not undermine their mood. "
He noted that the mood of the people itself is discouraging, pointing to the Cyproturks watching Russians shopping at the Iskele market. Eryurman also emphasized that in the state everyone thinks only about himself and that the prices of goods in Cyprus differ from world prices due to the presence of a third factor in pricing. He remarked that he can't condemn people who bring in that third factor because everyone is trying to protect themselves. Ehrurman asked how the people will protect themselves.
He also stated that to say they will give everyone a high cost of living is a hoax and that the appreciation of the dollar will affect the cost of goods in July and August and life will become even more expensive for people on minimum wage earnings. Erürman also noted that Cypriot Turks are watching Africans in cars, Russians and Iranians in real estate, and Greeks in stores.
Erurman also said that the increase in fuel prices will affect transportation, bread and milk, and that the only thing that will remain unchanged are salaries. He said that all expenses are linked to the dollar and all revenues are linked to the lira and that this leads to impoverishment.
Erurman also said that the protocols signed with the Republic of Turkey used to provide predictability in the country, but now they have become documents completely devoid of predictability and filled with clauses that have nothing to do with economic and financial cooperation. He also noted that private schools are no longer worried that if they raise tuition to 150-130K, they will have a hard time finding students because the demand is there. He also noted that foreigners have children.
Erurman also spoke about the problems facing the Eastern Mediterranean University (DAÜ), noting that the problem will not be solved just by the fact that the founders receive very high pensions. He stated that the main factor that could solve the problem was to increase the number of international students. He said that the number of foreign students at DAÜ is not high enough compared to past years.
Erührmann said that this requires serious publicity and that students should be admitted to DAÜ based on their quality. He also commented on the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on June 25, saying that they see the situation on the ground very well. He noted that their candidate Sami Ozuslu is known to all and that all CTP members are centered around him. He emphasized that elections are not just about personalities and that it is necessary to show that they do not approve of everything that is happening, but seek governance based on the plans and realities of the country, ensuring that the youth are protected and that the plans that will be adopted by the parliament are accepted. He also said that saying "no" to this election is a show of will that will start a change and that one should use this right so as not to regret later.
