In Georgia, the True Southern Masterpiece is valued at a record price

About nine years after it first hit the market with an impressive price of $48 million, a massive estate in an upscale Atlanta neighborhood is back on the market. However, you'll still need a significant amount of money to get the keys to this luxurious Tudor-style mansion, which is now listed for just under $47 million.
If the property sells for somewhere near this amount, it will set a record for the most expensive real estate transaction ever recorded in the Atlanta metro area, surpassing the $18.1 million paid for a home in the Tuxedo Park neighborhood of Buckhead in 2021.
Located behind gates and high fences in the affluent suburb of Sandy Springs, near Buckhead and just minutes from downtown Atlanta, this nearly 19-acre property was purchased by local businessman J.K. McDonald for a record $3.7 million in 1987. The founder of Media Marketing Services, a company specializing in travel and incentives, subsequently undertook extensive renovations and expansions in the mid-1990s.
Known as "Chestnut Hall," this limestone and brick mansion features seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms in nearly 18,000 square feet of luxurious space, adorned with numerous expensive antiques and artworks that are included in the fully furnished sale. There is also a one-bedroom pool house with its own living room and kitchenette, as well as a separate four-bedroom guest house and a three-car garage accessible through a magnificent porte-cochère.
The entrance gallery is adorned with a French chandelier made of gilded bronze, hanging from a carved plaster ceiling.
From here, the fireplace living room connects to an octagonal solarium, leading through mahogany French doors to a terrace made of Jerusalem limestone with a view of the grounds. Other features include a formal dining room with velvet-upholstered walls, a Thermador wine cabinet, a built-in bar, and a Chippendale-style armoire filled with heirloom porcelain, as well as a gourmet kitchen with granite countertops, two islands, top-of-the-line appliances, and an adjoining breakfast area.
There is also a workshop measuring 2,400 square feet, fully equipped with a luxurious bathroom featuring an onyx sink with an 18-karat gold finish and a two-level wardrobe for over 200 pairs of shoes. The well-maintained grounds are adorned with an antique statue. Other parts of the house include a library with wall shelves and a Baccarat crystal chandelier, as well as a den with a hidden workspace, a fitness center, a room with a wine bar, and a climate-controlled wine cellar for 1,000 bottles; the property also has a basketball court and a baseball field, as well as a key-shaped saltwater pool.
An additional bonus, according to the announcement posted by Debbie Leonard Meyer and Eric Peterson from Keller Williams Realty, is a full year of estate management. Click here to see more photos of Chestnut Hall.
