The return of squatters to the Georgia area after the arrest: 'The worst criminal activity I've ever seen.'
Mel Keaton, a candidate for the GeorgiaHouse of Representatives, commented on the situation in his Atlanta district, where a captivating story recently unfolded about squatters who took over a $450,000 home. This situation has become a major concern for local residents, especially for the chairman of the Hampton Oaks homeowners association. During an appearance on "Fox & Friends First," he stated that"This is the worst criminal act he has ever encountered."Soon after a certain pause, the invaders returned to the house again, even after they had been detained and released on bail.
The initial theft occurred early Monday morning when the individuals who had broken into the residence were caught, and the police noticed a stolen car belonging to a neighbor parked nearby. As a result, two of the arrested individuals were charged with felonies, while the remaining four faced lesser charges for unlawful occupation of someone else's property. Despite the fact that the home invasion has been established, the local residents' struggle against the violators' rights continues.
Keaton is concerned that law enforcement seems unable to help.

As one of the program's hosts noted, the laws are indeed on the side of the invaders, which causes deep dissatisfaction among the rightful owners.“The invaders used the legal system to stay in this house.”, - added Keaton.
Shortly after these events, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill on property seizure reform that allows owners to go to court for damages and also speeds up the eviction process. As previously reported, this bill makes property seizure a criminal offense, punishable by up to one year in prison, as well as fines that can reach thousands of dollars. Additionally, in the case of lease agreement forgery, offenders may face criminal liability.
Before the signing of this bill, issues with housing takeovers had a civil nature in Georgia. A study conducted by Bloomberg showed that over 1,200 homes in the Atlanta metropolitan area had already been taken over by such violators, indicating the seriousness of the problem in this region. Local authorities understand that the situation requires urgent intervention to restore law and order and protect the legitimate interests of citizens.
