The transparency and homogeneity of the first floor areas is achieved through the use of large sliding glazed panels and double-height spaces in the living area in the east residence. The strict articulation of glazing with the facades defines the primary relationship of glazing to solid surfaces, an important compositional technique to achieve an integrated clarity of architectural forms and details. The north residence is located adjacent to a fluid element that wraps around the front façade. Thus, through the use of glass surfaces on three sides, a visual connection was achieved between the fluid element, the living and dining areas and the exterior spaces. The homes are flexible and adaptable - to provide different levels of privacy for individual family members, couples, professional caregivers, extended family and friends. It is essential to provide generous daylight to each individual room, and to vary the amount of daylight illuminating all rooms throughout the year and by the hour on individual days. Skylights are strategically placed above the staircases. The design aims to achieve a characteristic resonance between place, form, space, material, landscape and light, and to address pressing environmental concerns.
