Property Description

Superb and Historical Sixteenth Century Renaissance Chateau (Ismh Listed), Exquisitely Restored by its Present Owners Using Specialist Artisans from Across the Region to Faithfully Retain the Beauty …

Superb and historical Sixteenth Century Renaissance Chateau (ISMH Listed), exquisitely restored by its present owners using specialist artisans from across the region to faithfully retain the beauty and elegance of the period.

Typical of the early renaissance period, the Chateau is oriented on an east/west axis to take full advantage of natural light and its twin towers lend grace and unity to the design.
Built from luminescent "tuffeau" stone under an 'Angers' slate roof, this remarkable property retains a wealth of authentic features including: spiral stone staircases, enormous mullioned stained-glass windows, monumental fireplaces and beautifully crafted floors and ceilings.

The main living accommodation is laid across 3 floors each of about 250m2, with cellars below and substantial attics above, and the grounds extend to over an acre.
The entire lower ground floor at garden level, with its impressive vaulted stone ceilings, would have been entirely taken up by kitchens but now offers a series of interconnecting reception rooms.
The ground floor and first floor comprise the grand reception rooms, a dining room, a library, a small chapel or oratory, a recently fitted kitchen and bedrooms with en suite facilities.
The substantial attics are accessed by a stone spiral staircase in the "south tower", and reveal the original timber roof structures.

The Chateau and its fully enclosed grounds are approached via impressive entrance gates from a quiet lane in a small town on the outskirts of thriving city of Poitiers, with the Futuroscope Technology Park, TGV station and international airport all within very easy reach.

Currently operated as an exhibition centre and events venue, the unique combination of this stunning, historically important Renaissance Chateau, superbly restored in such an accessible location, makes it ideal either as the base for developing a range of business opportunities or reviving as a unique private residence.
