Threat of forest fires in Turkey
Turkey has been facing a serious threat from forest fires in recent days. While such disasters are not uncommon for the area, especially in hot forested areas, the fire usually bypasses popular tourist destinations. This time, however, it came close to well-known resorts. Local firefighting services are unable to cope with the fire element, and the main hope rests on professional firefighters. The situation is further complicated by strong winds, which contribute to the spread of flames.
The scale of the disaster
Based on the statistics, the scale of the disaster is indeed impressive. The fire extinguishing operation involved:
- 15 airplanes,
- 9 drones,
- 50 helicopters,
- over 830 ground fire engines.
It should be noted that some 150 auxiliary vehicles are actively involved in the fight against the fire. Thousands of representatives of special services, military, gendarmerie and maritime forces are also involved in this complex operation. In addition, airplanes from countries such as Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine and Iran have come to Turkey's aid.
Public opinion
Fires have become the No. 1 topic in public discourse. Many people are worried about their relatives in the affected areas. There is also a sense of unity among citizens, as the common disaster has brought people together. Already in the first days since the beginning of the fires, various relief actions have been launched for residents who have been affected by the fire. Citizens are actively collecting food and basic necessities for those who found themselves in a difficult situation.
Aid initiatives
Our team did not stand aside and sent two cars with humanitarian aid, as such an initiative was absolutely necessary. Government agencies will certainly help the victims, but it will take a long time to restore and stabilize the situation. Not only residential houses were destroyed, but also greenhouses with valuable crops, and domestic animals were killed, which also creates huge problems.
Current situation
So far, as of Tuesday, official sources in Turkey are extremely cautious in their comments. Television programs are mainly devoted to firefighting. Local residents are noticing that new fires are breaking out in the same places where previous fires were recently extinguished.
Famous resorts
Among the most prominent resorts mentioned in news reports are Bodrum and Marmaris. Last weekend, tourists were evacuated from several hotels in Marmaris when fires broke out in the vicinity. Fortunately, vacationers have already managed to return back to their hotels.
Serious fires
Serious fires started in the middle of last week in Manavgat, which is not on the coast but inland along the road connecting Antalya and Alanya. The locality is better known for its picturesque waterfalls than its resort offerings, and attracts a large number of tourists. However, the flames are now getting closer to residential yards and, unfortunately, human casualties have been recorded (according to various reports, the death toll ranges from four to five people).
Outlook for the future
At the moment, the fire has not reached the major cities of Antalya and Alanya, and in these settlements there are no obvious signs of ongoing destruction. However, the situation remains extremely tense and requires close monitoring, as nature is once again ready to remind of its power and danger.
The article is about recent events in Alanya, where a light haze was observed for two days. The sun appeared to be obscured, giving the impression that it was hidden behind clouds. Intense winds lifted ash from the mountains, which then settled on balconies and beaches.
Despite this, I did not notice the smell of smoke, although some clients from Avsallar and Konaklı mentioned it. It is important to note that the forest fires occurred at a considerable distance from the coast - about 15-20 kilometers in the mountains. It seems that only one peak caught fire, while the areas bordering the cities were more affected. The most severe destruction was recorded in Manavgat.
Sergey Volchenkov, who lives in Antalya, reported that in his city the effects of the fire were hardly felt. Fortunately, the flames and smoke did not reach this picturesque place. On Sunday, a small fire broke out in Kemer, in the Aslanbudjak neighborhood, which was quickly extinguished thanks to the efforts of local residents.
Real estate and investment situation
As for real estate and investment issues, we will elaborate on this on our Telegram channel. Given that the epicenters of the fire were far from the coast, the damage mostly affected the homes of locals engaged in agriculture. Foreigners tend to be less willing to buy property in such remote locations, and their properties were not affected. Nevertheless, there are also good vacation options close to the sea.
Our dacha and the situation in Yeniköy
Our summer house is located in the village of Yeniköy, about 20 kilometers from Konaklı, on the way to the mountains. We bought this house for the sake of the surrounding nature and the beautiful forests with centuries-old pine trees that form a unique landscape. The fire came quite close to our village. The district headman called and informed us that there was a forest fire half a kilometer away from our house. We decided to go to the place, although we could not actually help - we were just informed about the situation.
There was panic at the site, with people running out into the streets to look at the flames. Police, gendarmerie and several helicopters and airplanes arrived to deal with the emergency. We were on the scene at about four in the morning and the fire was out by nine.
Protection of housing from natural disasters
The question of measures to protect one's home from such accidents remains a hot topic. Full protection against natural disasters, including wildfires, is extremely difficult, but the most reasonable solution is toinsure your property. The basic DASK insurance in Turkey only covers the effects of earthquakes and is mandatory for contracts with utilities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would like to say that the events of the last few days in Turkey have become a real test for local residents and for everyone who understands the importance of nature conservation. The forest fires that occurred near popular tourist destinations remind us of the fragility of the ecosystem and the need to be attentive to the world around us.
With such disasters becoming more frequent every year, it is important that we not only realize their seriousness, but also take a more active part in prevention activities. This concerns not only the authorities, who should improve early warning and emergency response systems, but also each of us, who can do our part to protect nature and our neighbors.
Shared risks and social cohesion
The misconception that such tragedies only happen “out there” must disappear. We are all involved, to one degree or another, and our unity only strengthens community spirit in such difficult times. I am proud to be a part of this process, participating in relief gatherings and supporting those who have been affected.
Concern for safety
Finally, I hope this case serves as a reminder of the importance of having safety measures in place, includingreal estate insurance. Insurance can be an effective protection tool not only for your property, but also for your peace of mind during such difficult times.
Key Thoughts:
- Social cohesionplays an important role in overcoming difficulties.
- Everyone can do their part to protect the environment.
- Real estate insurance- an important step toward your defense.
- Disaster early warning systems need to be improved.
Only together, with an understanding of shared risks and a commitment to protecting the environment, can we reduce the impact of such disasters in the future and create a safer environment for ourselves and future generations. I wish everyone a peaceful sky above their heads and good health in these difficult times.
