Boris Johnson leaves luxury estate to return to crisis-hit country
Boris Johnson's return from Spain
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, his wife Carrie and son Wilf have left their luxury villa in Spain for the UK. The family left the Marbella estate in a black minivan with tinted windows. They headed to an unknown airport, followed by a security escort.
It is known that Johnson was filmed while on vacation painting in his villa. While Britain faced one crisis after another, its prime minister enjoyed a vacation on the Spanish coast. Drivers were forced to wait in lines at gas stations due to a shortage of tanker drivers, and supermarkets across the country faced empty shelves. While the Prime Minister sunbathed with his family, Britons were warned of a shortage of Christmas presents and turkey.
Boris Johnson has been criticized for opting to take a late-night vacation to a £25,000-a-week villa owned by MP Zac Goldsmith. After he was spotted with a paintbrush in hand at sunset in the mountains on his 600-acre estate near Marbella, it was assumed Johnson would disappear again for a while.
While the Prime Minister was enjoying his vacation, the British public awaited his comment on a condemning report by MPs on how the UK failed to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Johnson's team had previously explained his decision to leave, claiming he was continuing to work on state business. The Prime Minister's spokesman said Johnson had had a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was receiving ongoing updates on work to resolve supply issues, and that he was in contact with ministers and No. 10, and was continuing to take calls ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26.
