Buika: My youth - a hatred of the voice
Concha Buika's voice is unique; it's a style that's hard to imitate. "She has an unusual timbre and a wide range," said Pedro Almodóvar about her. "It's pure passion with a beautiful texture," praised Alicia Keys, who also admitted that she constantly listens to the singer. However, for Buika herself, her voice is "a mystery." Moreover, she confesses that for many years she felt disgust towards it. When she was a child, the choir director told her that she had "a dog's voice." "I spent most of my youth hating my voice," the singer claims in a phone conversation with La Vanguardia. Today, at 51, with eight studio albums released and currently on a world tour, Buika recalls this story with a smile. "That teacher didn't take into account that dogs have beautiful voices."
The Mil·lenni Festival Singer will perform alongside DJ and music producer Kiko Navarro on November 5 at Paral·lel 62. The singer-songwriter, poet, and producer of her own works is returning to Barcelona to perform on November 5 at the Paral·lel 62 club as part of the 25th Mil·lenni festival, which offers a diverse program with concerts of various styles in the city's most iconic concert halls. "Barcelona has a wonderful audience, I really enjoy it," admits the Mallorca artist, who travels the world with her music. Buika, who has explored and combined various musical genres throughout her career, including flamenco, jazz, Latin music, and blues, believes that "the only genre is the taste of music." Her songs cannot be classified into any specific style, making her versatile and able to reach different audiences with her creativity.
"Silencio" is a new single that the singer released together with DJ and producer Kiko Navarro. It is one of the songs they will perform live this Sunday, as part of their extensive program that they have been working on for a long time. This is the first time both artists will share the stage together. Also read: "I came here to win, and my pride is in NASA; no satellite can extinguish my blues." Every phrase she utters is filled with confidence and optimism. She doesn't want to talk about the future to avoid becoming a slave to her words, as she considers herself a "very contradictory" person. The only thing she can say is that she is looking forward to returning to the Catalan stages; she is not nervous at all. "I couldn't be nervous in front of my family."
