Donald Trump - photo of the Speaker of the House of Representatives

Former U.S. President Donald Trump posted a photo of himself with a U.S. House of Representatives holder on the Truth Social platform Wednesday afternoon. And while it's not an explicit admission that he'd like to be Speaker of the House, it will definitely spark discussion about the possibility.

After Kevin McCarthy was ousted as Speaker of the House on Tuesday following a vote initiated by someone from Florida, Matt Gates, the post became vacant. Technically, the Speaker of the House can be a non-member of Congress, and that has led some far-right Republicans to call for Trump to take the position. Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia was one of three elected Republicans who floated the idea Tuesday.

The Truth Social image of Trump did not contain any text, but the photo was photoshopped and taken from Trump's official account.

It's unclear whether every post from this account is directly from Trump, though he often posts until late at night in capitalized letters, which could be a sign of his presence.

Since Fox News' Sean Hannity noted on his show Tuesday night that his "sources" say Trump is open to taking the speaker's job on a short-term basis.

S Trump himself also spoke about the possibility Wednesday morning in New York City, at a press conference about his civil trial for fraudulent handling of Trump Organization real estate and financial assets, including his Florida property, Mar-a-Lago.

"A lot of people call me and talk about the speaker. All I can say is we will do what's best for the country and other members of the Republican Party and the people," Trump said, according to NBC News.

After ousting McCarthy on Tuesday, the House went into recess and doesn't plan to reconvene until next week. According to reports, the current favorites for Speaker are Representatives Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio. But if Trump surges ahead, all bets are off. It's unlikely, but stranger things have happened.
