The Italian wine group Le Tenute Del Leone Alato has expanded its portfolio of Italian wineries with the acquisition of Duemani, a biodynamic winery inTuscany.

Leone Alato, which owns over 780 hectares of vineyards across Italy, has expanded its wine portfolio by acquiring Duemani.

Founded in 2000 by Elena Celli and Luca D'Atoma, the Duemani winery inTuscany spans 13 hectares, 7.5 of which are located in the small commune of Riparbella, while the remaining 4.5 hectares are situated in Castellina Marittima.

The group focuses on producing varieties of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Grenache using a regulated biodynamic method.

Igor Boccado, the CEO of Leone Alato, commented on the deal: "The acquisition of Duemani is fully in line with the strategy of our wine hub: increasing sales by focusing on quality, starting from the location of the vineyards."

“Duemani is an important new link in the strategic expansion of our assets: it represents the inclusion of a company that has a prestigious reputation in Italy and abroad. The deal was made possible by achieving our sales goals,” he added.

Luca D'Atoma, one of the co-founders of Duemani, who will remain as a wine consultant for the winery, said: "For Duemani, this operation is a great opportunity for growth and achieving new successes that affirm the value of the territory and the company."

The Duemani winery has a production capacity of 60,000 bottles per year, with 66% of its production being exported and the rest remaining in Italy.

According to a report by the Italian farmers' organization Coldiretti, wine exports from Italy increased by 10% in 2022.

It also showed that Italy produced 50.3 million hectoliters of wine on 310,000 farms in 2022, which is a larger volume than France and Spain. The total value of exported wine reached €7.9 billion ($8.73 billion) last year, which, according to Coldiretti, is a record high.

Sparkling wines seem to be the growth leaders, having increased by 19% in value.
