Spanish Wine Road: 8 wineries in Spain (what to try at each)

The article, "Spain's Best Wineries: a beginner's itinerary of Spanish wineries," published over 4 years ago, highlights the growing global interest in Spanish wine and the travels of American tourists looking to experience Spanish wine production at the source.

Spain has long been one of the most productive wine-producing countries, with the highest vineyard area in the world at 2.4 million acres. However, it is only in recent years that Spanish wine has become a global rave. Wine exports have doubled in the past two decades, with the United States being the top destination. So it's no surprise that American tourists want to experience the wonders of Spanish wine directly''on site, just as they did in Piedmont or Bordeaux. Spanish wineries received 21% more visitors in 2017 than the previous year.

With more than 4,000 wineries and dozens of wine regions, it's hard to know where to start. Instead of trying to describe all the options, we turned to three of our favorite wine experts to compile a list of the best wineries offering great wine, history and views.

The wines of Madrid:

Las Moradas de San Martin, offers wines produced from century-old Garnacha vineyards, with high scores and excellent age.
