How Matthew Perry, a Canadian, was able to become an American star.

How Matthew Perry, a Canadian, was able to become an American star.

If there is something like Canadian nobility, it can be said that Matthew Perry belonged to it. Signs of his noble lineage can be found in his connections to some of Canada's iconic personalities. He had ties to the Trudeau family, as with Pierre Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada, through his mother who worked as press secretary to the elder Trudeau, and even Justin Trudeau, current Prime Minister of Canada, who was a childhood friend and went to the same school as Matthew Perry, although Perry was two years older than him. What's more, Perry's stepfather was famous Canadian television host Keith Morrison.

Matthew Perry, the only child of John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Perry (married Langford), was born on August 19, 1969of the year.

In his youth, he would move from Montreal, Canada, where he lived with his mother, to visit his father in Los Angeles, California. His father was an American actor and model best known as "Sailor Old Spice" while his Canadian mother was a journalist. The "Friends" star later moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor, while his mother married Keith Morrison of "Dateline" fame.

After Perry's death in October, an autopsy was performed when the 54-year-old actor was found unconscious at his home in California.

Recently, autopsy results revealed that Perry died from the acute effects of ketamine use. The drug is medically prescribed for short-term sedation and anesthesia. However, ketamine abusecan cause hallucinations. Tripping on Special K is considered better than LSD or FCP because its hallucinogenic effects are relatively short-lived, lasting about 30-60 minutes instead of several hours. An autopsy revealed that Perry's valiant and courageous life struggle with addiction still ended in his tragic defeat.

Like many Canadian entertainers, Perry dreamed of glory in Hollywood.

But unlike many others, Perry succeeded. In fact, after becoming part of the cast of the TV series Friends, it is reported that he passed away, leaving behind a fortune estimated to be around $120 million dollars. That was about as "big" as you can get. But for most Canadians, working in Hollywood.wasn't as easy as it was for Perry.

For Perry, access to work in Hollywood was easy because he was a dual citizen.

Because he was born to an American father and a Canadian mother, he could work in either country without going through the immigration process. To become an American in Perry's case, all he had to do was show a U.S.

birth certificate. The same was true for his Canadian citizenship, as he was born to a Canadian mother. For other Canadian artists, the process is much more complicated.

The only way to get a pass to work in Hollywood is to win an Oscar.

The best way for Canadians, and indeed artists from other countries around the world, to be able to work in America,is to succeed enough to rise to the very top of their field. They can do this by showing evidence that they have been nominated for or won a significant national or international prize or award in their field, such as an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy or Directors Guild Award. In the case of Canada, this might be a Genius Award, which can be compared to winning an Oscar in the U.S., or a similar Canadian award in music or television.

In addition to receiving such an award, in order for artists in the arts to be authorized to work in the U.S., they must prove at least three of the following:

  • Demonstrate that they have played a leading, principal, or important role in institutions and establishmentshigh reputation.
  • Demonstrate that they have been commercially or critically successful.
  • Demonstrate that they have received significant recognition for achievements from organizations, critics, government agencies, or other recognized experts in their field.
  • Document that they have received a high salary or other remuneration for their services relative to others in the field.
  • Provide other similar evidence.

For workers in the film and television industry, the same options apply, but the requirements for the level of evidence are higher. To establish "outstanding ability in the arts," it is sufficient to demonstrate a high level of achievement. For "outstandingachievements in the film or television industry" requires a very high level of success. Additional information is not available.

There are various ways in which artists can obtain a work visa to work in Hollywood. Obviously, all of these standards are difficult to meet, so many foreign artists will not be successful. However, it is possible to travel to the United States as a visitor and participate in auditions that could lead to major roles in television or movies, which could lead to an approved application to work in America. You can also explore other avenues such as obtaining a work visa as a model, writer or director. Legally marrying an American can also work, although the emphasis here is on thelegally married, not just for immigration purposes. A consultation with an immigration attorney can help determine what other options are available.

When it comes to Matthew Perry, his legacy has been defined by more than just his role as Chandler Bing on the TV series Friends. More importantly, by openly sharing his personal story, he taught us a disturbing lesson about the lessons to be learned from his journey from innocence to addiction.
