Which European villages are the most affordable to buy real estate?
The opportunity to emigrate in search of new labor challenges is always present among the population, especially young people. A country's current economic condition, high future real estate costs, insecurity and other factors are usually the key and determining factors for starting a new life abroad.
This is also happening in Argentina. Hundreds of young people have chosen different countries to continue their lives. Madrid and Barcelona were the most popular cities and continue to be, but there is another Spanish destination that goes unnoticed but offers greater affordability when buying real estate: the Iberian Peninsula.
According to Idealista's real estate report, here are the most economical cities close to major European cities.
Alcaudete de la Jara
The cheapest city in Spain to buy a house is in the province of Toledo. Specifically Alcaudete de la Jara has the lowest price per square meter, as property owners in this city were asking an average of $308 per square meter. It is located just 140 kilometers from Madrid, La Nación reported.
Belmez
The city of Belmez in the province of Cordoba ranks second as the cheapest city to buy a house, with a price of $382 per square meter. Located in the heart of the Guadiatos Valley, it has only 2,921 residents. It is about 70 kilometers from the city of Cordoba and 200 kilometers from Seville.
Fuente Obejuna
The second cheapest, along with Belmez, is another Andalusian city, Fuente Obejuna.

Villafranca del Cid
This list also includes the city of Villafranca del Cid. In this city at altitude, it is common to see fortified manor houses with towers, transporting visitors back in time as they stroll between their homes. Costing $383 per square meter, it is located 183 kilometers from Valencia and is one of the cheapest on the list.
Puerto Serrano
Below the US$400 per square meter mark is Puerto Serrano in Cadiz. Its typical rural houses surrounded by orange orchards welcome its visitors, as well as its numerous archaeological sites. In this city of 6852 inhabitants, the price per square meter is $396 and there are two major cities nearby: Seville at 77 kilometers and Málaga with its beaches at 146 kilometers.
Almadén
With a market price of $402 per square meter, this Andalusian town has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because ore mining was very important in Almadén and continued uninterrupted for more than 2,000 years. It is believed to contain the largest mercury mines in the world, which have been used in the production of mica, glass and prescription powder.
