Cat house

Cat house

Cats have adapted wonderfully to urban life, especially in warm countries, and the members of the feline family living in Valencia are no exception. Stray cats can roam the streets quite freely, searching for a cozy spot to rest until they are chased away by passersby. However, a home for cats serves as a safe haven for these lovely creatures. At the foot of a bright blue wall on Carrer del Museu stands a charming little house that catches the attention of people walking by. This house, only one or two feet tall, is designed in the traditional Valencian style, making it even more appealing.

It is adorned with a Spanish tiled roof, a small fountain, and a "garden" on the side, which consists of just one potted plant.

The entrance to the little house is quite dark and doesn't seem to lead to the other side of the wall, but perhaps it's just a trick to confuse people. There is a legend that an elderly woman, who once owned the house behind the gates, left it for the homeless cats of Valencia so they could live there. Whether this is true and if there are really cats behind these mysterious walls remains an unsolved mystery, at least for the people living in Valencia.

When you go for a walk, it's hard to miss this wonder — it's located to the left of Carrera del Museo street if you're heading from the El Carme museum (which is also worth a visit). After passing by two or three small cafes, you'll come across the famous cat house, which will leave both animal lovers and casual passersby enchanted.
