Beware of the minimum pension in Spain - 1,000 euros.

In 2024, the minimum pension in Spain will reach 1,000 euros, with an increase of 3.8%. This refers to the gross pension, which is subject to certain conditions, particularly taking into account the years worked. In any case, it's great. If a pensioner has no rent to pay, owns their own home, and hasn't gone bankrupt after a divorce, they might be able to live a life that, while not luxurious, is still decent. Moreover, they have every right to do so, just like those who earn low salaries (who, by the way, won't be able to afford their own homes by retirement). However, we all want to ensure that elderly people do not face hardship after their working lives.

The problem lies in how we pay for these pensions, because the aging of Spanish society means that people are living longer, although doctors haven't increased our lifespan; they have extended our old age. And the cost of pensions is not only rising, which is concerning, but is also being prolonged for decades and decades.

So there is no division between the good and the bad, those who want elderly people to make it to the end of the month, and those who accept it because they are threatened by hunger. Only Yolanda Díaz and Pedro Sánchez can promote such nonsense, but it remains false. We all want retirees to receive decent pensions. But the smart ones understand that we cannot afford such expenses without taking measures, and some of them may be tough. The least harsh measure is to postpone the retirement age, at least to 70 years... immediately.
