Andrea Pignataro, a 53-year-old entrepreneur from Bologna, has invested the most in Italy over the past three years: 5.7 billion euros, acquiring companies in software, data, analytics, and stakes in banks (thus making it onto Forbes' billionaire list for 2024).

The Ion group manages a vast database of commercial information from Cerved, banking software from Cedacri, and the recently acquired Prelios (asset management, loan servicing, real estate).

Ion is not just a concentrate of financial intelligence in Italy; it is a powerful fintech hub that is accountable to this entrepreneur.

Pignataro is known for his secrecy, which has probably carried over into his group's communications as well, creating mystery around him, even regarding actual debt obligations.

Investments and assets

• The entrepreneur paid an institutional fee of 50 million euros for a 2% stake in Mps and acquired a 9.4% stake in the technology bank Banca Illimity of Corrado Passera (approximately 80 million).

• His personal portfolio includes dozens of properties in the center of Milan, in Pisa, as well as exclusive estates and land in Sardinia on the island of Maddalena, worth at least one hundred million euros.

• He also invested nearly 300 million euros in real estate development on the exclusive island of Canouan in the Caribbean, in the Grenadines archipelago.
