The royalty buried in the Tatoa crypts
On Tuesday, January 10, King Constantine II of Greece, former king of Hellas, passed away in Athens. Will be buried in the royal cemetery of Tatoi, located in the former summer residence of the Greek royal family in Greece.
Tatoi was the summer estate of Greek rulers, located less than 30 km from the center of Athens. After the abolition of the monarchy in 1973, the family was able to keep the estate, but the Greek government confiscated it in 1993. Konstantin took his case to the European Court of Human Rights, but was only able to recover the money, not the property. Several proposals have been put forward since the estate was confiscated, including turning the former palace into a museum and luxury spa hotel.
The Tatoi royal cemetery is located in a wooded area of the estate. Several generations of Greek monarchs and their families have been buried there. King George I of Greece is buried in a tomb on Tatoi. George, heir to the Danish throne, was invited to become King of Hellas at the age of 17 in 1863. In 1913, just a few months before his anniversary, he was assassinated.

Many European royal families are expected to attend the king's funeral. Queen Sofia of Spain is Constantine's older sister, and Constantine's widow, Queen Anne-Marie, is the younger sister of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. The Greek and British royal families are closely related as they are related, and many members of the Greek royal family have remained permanently in the UK after the family moved there in exile. The late Greek king was godfather to the Prince of Wales, so William is expected to attend the funeral, although funeral attendees have not yet been confirmed.
