Received nothing but scorn from the children of the red duchess.

Rosario Bermuda had a very difficult time adjusting to life in Madrid when she turned six. Before that, she had spent her childhood in Etxa, a town in the province of Seville, where her mother had left her in the care of her grandparents. It was a difficult time when the family economy required constant sacrifice. Being a single mother in black and white Spain was a real social challenge. The woman who used to work in the house of Leoncio González de Gregorio, who later became the husband of Luisa Isabel Álvarez de Toledo y Maura, the red duchess, had to return to the Spanish capital to earn a living and support her daughter, the fruit of her relationship with the aristocrat. Last October, the Supreme Court recognized Bermudo as the daughter''of this noble Spaniard. A decision with which the other recognized descendants of Gonzalez de Gregorio had again lost another court battle. Neither Pilar, Gabriel nor Leoncio - all three of Rosario's brothers on her father's side - had given her this easy resistance since those ten years when she began her claim to paternity.

"I always knew who my father was," Rosario says in an interview with Diario de Sevilla.

Her mother told her parents when she left for Etxe shortly after she was born. "She kept the hope that my father would recognize me and we could start a family." However, when the marriage to Alvarez de Toledo, who eventually became known as the Red Duke by his nickname because of his rebellious nature, was announced, she realized there was no turning back.'''She realized that she had run out of options, so she decided to start a new life,'' she added.

They spent happy years in Etah, which Rosario remembers well despite her young age. She still keeps in touch with relatives who stayed in this town, which they left when she was almost six years old. Her mother married a Madridian and they moved to live in the Palomares neighborhood of Vallecas. In one house of 60 square meters, ten people lived under one roof: her mother with her adoptive father, mother-in-law and matchmakers. "It was very difficult for me to adjust. I came from a house where it was just my grandmothers and me. I had to learn to coexist with nine people in such a limited space and at such an age,''when I was already realizing a lot of things,' states Rosario, who took her mother's husband's last name. "He was a wonderful man who loved me like his daughter. I have only words of praise for him. "

In her 72 years, this Etche woman is demanding only what is "rightfully" hers.

A portion of the inheritance she is entitled to as the daughter of Leoncio González de Gregorio. The economic assistance needed to cope with the total dependency of her husband, who has spent a lot of time in hospitals in Toledo and Torrejón. Lack of funds forces her to stay by his side 24 hours a day. "We don't have enough money to hire someone to take care of him for even a few hours," Rosario details. Since the beginning''s struggle to have her daughter recognized as an aristocrat, she received no help from her paternal brothers, who "completely abandoned her". "The Red Duchess, despite knowing of my existence and her struggle for social causes, showed no interest in me either." "The only one who contacted me was Gabriel, who met my daughter Nuria," she explains. "He once promised he would pay me my share. But he never called again, nor did he move a finger to make sure I got my share," she adds.

There is a danger of 'disguising' an inheritance

Attorney Fernando Osuna played a key role in the lawsuit. It was one of her children who contacted him after learning he defended similar cases. After the Supreme Court''recognized kinship to González de Gregorio, a legacy claim was recently filed in a Madrid court. It asks for provisional measures to prevent the 'loss' of inherited assets. "There is a danger that the recognized heirs will sell them or hide them," warns the lawyer. To this end, an application has been made to include this claim in the real estate register, where the aristocrat's various inherited assets are registered. "If someone is interested in buying one of these buildings, they must first know that it is disputed by hereditary rights," Osuna points out. The same has been done with farming ventures, which require the seizure of all income derived from them.

The inheritance of the widow of the red duchess''(valued by some experts at almost 17 million euros) consists of several apartments in the most prestigious neighborhoods of Madrid, properties and lands in Badajoz and the famous Quintana Redonda Palace in Soria, built in the mid-18th century, which has great historical value. It is currently managed by Pilar González de Gregorio, daughter of the Red Duchess and Leoncio, recognized by her father as his universal heir. Due to its atmosphere and beauty, it is used mainly for celebrations, mainly weddings.

According to Osuna, if the "broad legal criterion" is applied, his client will be able to receive nine million euros from the inheritance. If the "narrower" criterion is applied - she will receive three
