A 96-year-old woman died in hospital last Saturday from injuries sustained in an attack by two dogs in the town of Alguazas (Murcia) a few days ago, according to the publication La Verdad.

The incident occurred last Tuesday evening when the two animals, which were not microchipped or documented, as the local publication points out, escaped from the house while the owner was out of bounds. The dogs, a cross between an American Staffordshire Terrier and an American Bullie, bit an elderly woman in various parts of her body and ripped off one of her arms.

Medical staff were unable to help her until the dogs' owners, a 24-year-old boy and a 25-year-old girl, arrived and managed to stop the aggression and calm the animals. Doctors''provided her with first aid and transported her to Morales-Meseguerre inMurcia, where she remained in hospital until her death. This is the second death caused by a dog attack in the same week.

Also on Monday, the day before the attack on the 96-year-old woman, 27-year-old Arancha Corsero died after being attacked by seven herding dogs. The nurse, originally from Roales del Pan (Zamora), went for a walk on the road that connects her municipality with La Iniesta. It was then that the girl, talking on the phone with her mother, saw a pack of dogs heading towards her with aggressiveness. "Mom, the dogs are coming, the dogs are coming!" was the last thing she heard on the phone.

Six herding dogs attacked and killed her (five were initially reported, but it was later confirmed that their''there were two others). Although her mother immediately went in search of her, when she arrived, it was too late. Medical personnel who arrived could only confirm the young woman's death.

The person responsible for these dogs is now a shepherd and is being investigated on charges of manslaughter. The investigation is to find out the conditions under which the dogs were kept by the man.
