The sharpness remains.
The October city council meeting ended poorly. Usually, during requests and questions, opposition representatives speak, and the mayor or council members respond or commit to doing so in writing when specific dates or data are requested that they do not have on hand. This Thursday, there were no responses at all, and some questions touched on more personal issues than public interest.
Speech by a representative of the Vox party
The last speech at the meeting was given by the representative of the Vox party, Marta Garrido Moreno. She asked the mayor of Merida, Antonio Rodriguez Osuna, if he considered himself a democrat. She was frustrated at that point in the meeting because Osuna had previously stated that he would work to ensure that Vox would not be included in the next legislation in the Merida city council. The meeting reached this critical point after a clash between the mayor and Vox. Members of the party wanted to know if Antonio Rodriguez Osuna was aware at the rally with Pedro Sanchez that migrants would be arriving in El Prado, and therefore he offered them accommodation. Osuna clarified that the resettlement of groups of foreigners is the responsibility of the central government. Relevant news.
Francisco Piñol Sala, a representative of the Vox party, insisted that the mayor is responsible for this decision because he agrees with it and because the relocation affects Mérida. "Do you want to bring unity to Spain through mass immigration, and is there room in Mérida for all the outcasts of the earth?" he asked. Piñol Sala accused Osuna of having personal and economic interests in the "invasion" of people into the city. Osuna noted that he has a patrimonial relationship with the institutions and a lack of knowledge about public services. He mentioned Videla due to a lack of democratic culture.

In this already quite angry city, migrants have been accepted since 2015. And this building belongs to the Ministry of Migration because it was put up for auction in previous legislation and was purchased by the Ministry. The meeting ended with a verbal confrontation over migration issues and the ignoring of other matters that had been mentioned earlier and are part of the local agenda.
Other questions at the meeting
Maria Tirado, a member of the People's Party, inquired about the news regarding the Calatrava market. The application submitted last year has still not been reviewed.
Ángel de las Eras, a representative of the Por Mérida party, inquired about the competition for hiring an architect following the reconstruction carried out last summer at the municipal doctor's square. He also requested that the trimming of trees on the Rambla, which have very tall canopies, be done more carefully in the future.
Miguel Valdes, also from the Por Mérida party, wanted to know if there have been complaints from the residents of Mariano José de Larra, one of the back areas of the Roman Museum, about the noise from groups of young people who are sleeping in the old Resti building. They are also aware of a similar problem with an establishment on Avenida Lusitania. The issue of controlling the pigeon population in Mérida was not addressed, despite the request from Por Mérida. Even though the city hall has a contract with a company, council members Valdes and De las Eras believe that the winning bidder is doing nothing to solve the problem of overpopulation in certain areas.
Project for new regulations on mobile homes
As for the municipal regulations, the project for new regulations on mobile homes in the city was approved at the meeting.
