In January-September this year, 7.6 million international travelers stayed in tourist accommodations, accounting for 11.5 percent of the total. The number of tourists staying in tourist homes in Spain rose by 40.2% in the first nine months of the year compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 7.6 million international travelers, representing 11.5% of the total. Compared to 2019, the difference was 0.63% in favor of 2023, so the figures are very close, according to data from the Institute of National Statistics (INE) collected by Europa Press.

To find the highest number of tourists using tourist apartments, however, you have to go back to 2017, when the number exceeded eight million.

The use of tourist accommodation became the second preferred type of accommodation for international visitors, as hotels attracted 66% of tourists visiting Spain through September 2023, up 12.4% from 2022. Thus, tourist accommodation rentals surpass other types of accommodation such as staying with relatives or friends (7.3 million tourists) or staying in their own homes (3.8 million travelers).

In the first nine months of this year, Spain welcomed a total of 66.5 million tourists, 18.7% more than in 2022. These tourists spent about 84.608 billion euros in the country, an increase of 24%.
