Roma's stadium, De Vito has been sentenced to 8 years and 8 months. A year for the deputy Centemero, Bonifaci has been acquitted.
The investigation into the unfinished "Roma" stadium project in Tor di Valle has concluded with a one-year prison sentence (with probation) in the first instance for illegal financing against the deputy and former treasurer of the League, Giulio Centemero. Francesco Bonifazi, the former treasurer of the PD and now a deputy of Italia Viva, has been acquitted.
Both parliamentarians were accused of receiving financial funds totaling 400,000 euros, allocated between 2015 and 2018 by builder Luca Parnasi to two associations linked to the Democrats and the League.
This is already the second sentence for Centemero after the one handed down inMilan in 2023, also for illegal financing of the League in connection with the Esselunga scam.
The prosecutor's office requested 3 years and 4 months for the former League treasurer. The accusations against Centemero concern the funding of 250,000 euros provided by Immobiliare Pentapigna srl, which ended up in the coffers of Pù voci, an organization close to the League.
According to the prosecutor, the money was transferred in two installments: the first bank transfer of 125 thousand was made on December 1, 2015, and the second transfer of the same amount was received in February 2016.
Centemero has always claimed that these payments were legal and that no cent was transferred to Matteo Salvini's party.
As for Bonifaci, the aspects for which he was accused are related to 150,000 euros paid by the company Immobiliare Pentapigna Srl, which was once associated with a Roman entrepreneur, to the association Fondazione Eyu on February 22, 2018.
According to the prosecutor's opinion, this payment was merely a way to disguise financial assistance; however, the court acquitted Bonifaci.
The first-instance verdict in the trial relating to cases related to the first stadium project in Tor di Valle affected 20 other positions involved in various offenses, including corruption and influence peddling. A total of nine sentences were handed down.
Parnasi, the only one who chose reduced production, has been sentenced to 2 years in prison. A heavy sentence was handed down to former President of the Capitol Assembly Marcello De Vito - 8 years and 8 months, while his partner, lawyer Camillo Mezzacapo, received 9 years.
Luca Lanzalone, the former president of Acea and advisor to former mayor Virginia Raggi (who is not involved in the case), was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
Among those acquitted are former municipal council member Davide Bordoni, who is now close to Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, as well as former regional councilor Michele Civita.
The investigation centered around the AS Roma stadium project, initiated by president James Pallotta - which was withdrawn with the arrival of new owner Dan Friedkin - on the site of the former Tor di Valle racetrack and political events so that the five-star administration led by Virginia Raggi (initially controversial) could approve the project's implementation.
The investigation exploded in March 2019 with detentions ordered by theRome prosecutor's office, including the arrest of former Capitoline Assembly president De Vito and "facilitator" Lanzalone, accused of receiving money and favors to grease the machinery and achieve the goals of the Parnassi project.
