Tende High School students vs. Coima: Big real estate funds are to blame for the housing crisis.
InMilan, the national mobilization against rising rental prices began with a rally in front of the Coima property fund, chosen by students from Tende in piazza as a symbol of all "big funds, speculators, development and gentrification policies, the real culprits of the housing crisis." The youths, who began their protest in May when Hilaria Lamera set up the first "house" in front of the Polytechnic University, put up a banner reading "Enough profit on our needs," staged a smoke show, handed out leaflets and brought a symbolic tent.
"After two days of national discussion last September (held at the busy Splendor movie theater)," the guys explain, "we came to an agreement and demands that tie the various territorial struggles together with one common factor: the right to education is the right to housing. On this day, which foresees initiatives all over Italy, they decided to punish the Coima office, "the first culprit of this situation", because "by speculating, it only profits its gang at the expense of those who really live in this city: students and students, workers and workers who are gradually being excluded from their territory".
