About 150 Spanish municipalities across the country need to adapt to new legislation and already have established low-emission zones. The implementation of these zones means that the most polluting vehicles will not be able to enter city centers. Specifically, cities where these zones are already operational include Madrid, Barcelona, Córdoba, Pontevedra, A Coruña, Seville, Badalona, Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Valencia, and Sant Joan Despí. However, most municipalities are still working on publishing their zones with a delayed deadline, as these special zones were required to be in place by 2023. To keep drivers informed about the new zones or the cities where they can move freely or, conversely, where they should avoid to prevent fines, RACE has created a map to facilitate this task.

It should be noted that these zones only allow entry for the newest and least polluting vehicles, specifically those with the ECO label (green and blue) - mainly hybrid, gas, or both types of power sources - and those with the CERO emisiones label (blue) - electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Others are only permitted to drive during certain times. So far, vehicles with the A label have already faced significant restrictions in active low-emission zones, and these restrictions may be extended in 2024 to vehicles with the B label. Specifically, vehicles with the B label (yellow) refer to passenger cars and light vans running on gasoline registered since January 2000 or on diesel registered since January 2006. B label vehicles can freely drive in low-emission zones but will not be able to park inside the so-called ZBDEP District Center, except in situations explained on the Madrid 360 portal.

Among these exceptions, it is stated that the car is parked in a public parking lot, you are registered in the Central District, and your car is registered in the city of Madrid, as well as if you are a company or a sole proprietor conducting your business in a premises or office located in the Central District, or if you have been invited by one of them.
