Residents stop the construction of a McDonald'\'\''s in a luxury complex in Madrid.

Construction work on a McDonald'\''s opposite the luxury Somosaguas Centro estate has been halted after protests by residents of this neighborhood in Pozuelo de Alarcón, a suburb of Madrid.

After months of protests, residents of "Somosaguas Centro," where they had already started building a fast food restaurant on land designated for public and social use, have finally achieved a victory. "Somosaguas" is Madrid's most privileged neighborhood, home to the La Finca residence, the safest residential complex in Spain, and the place where famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo and the late Santander Bank chairman Emilio Botín lived.

A plan to build a fast food branch near the Somosaguas Centro neighborhood has sparked outrage''believe' that the license was 'wrongly' granted. The plot of land is intended for public and social use, but the McDonald'\'\''s project was presented as part of a large building intended for a medical center.

The plan was approved and the license was issued on May 22 to Sociedad Invertradis SL.

Since then, residents have claimed that the restaurant's activity would "far exceed" that of the clinic and that this is a case of legal fraud. Martin Gomez, one of the three owners of Invertradis, told El Pais newspaper that he has been subjected to "severe harassment" by Somosaguas residents, including "phone calls home at five o'clock in the morning." However, he is hopeful that his project will be successfully completed.

Posuelo de Alarcón was governed by the centrist Partido Partido''s People's Party (PP) since 1983. One of the former mayors, Jesús Sepúlveda, is implicated in the 'Gürtel' case, Spain's biggest contract bribery scandal.
