In search of a home on the Costa Blanca for two million: Oasis of Tranquility in Spain.
International Real Estate
Property prices in Javea, a former fishing village and now a resort town on the Mediterranean coast, offer comparative value in the luxury market in Spain.
House in eastern Spain with six bedrooms
1.97 MILLION DOLLARS (1.963 MILLION EUROS)
This six-bedroom, five-bathroom home sits on a 4.9-acre landscaped lot in the Montgo Ermita neighborhood of Javea, a former fishing village and now a resort town on the popular Costa Blanca resort in Spain.
The house, completed in 2000, was designed by its current owner, an architect, using natural wood, open spaces and plant-lined terraces. The L-shaped form of the house encloses the built-in swimming pool, and most of the living takes place on the first floor.
"It has a colonial feel to it," said sales agent Natasha Freitach of Lucas Fox, a Spanish luxury agency partnering with Savills of England. "You walk into this property and think, 'I could be in Bali.' It's an oasis of calm."
Main house
The main house has five bedrooms; four are located along one long corridor, ending with the master bedroom, which opens onto the lawn and pool area. Three other guest bedrooms face the corridor, each with sliding doors leading to a wooden walkway lined with bamboo and other tropical plants. The fifth bedroom next to the kitchen has its own bathroom.
Traditional kitchen-dining room
The traditional kitchen-dining room has an open wooden terrace.
Open living and dining area
The open living room and dining area features a vaulted ceiling with barrel-shaped beams and sliding doors that lead to a long covered terrace overlooking the pool. A rounded wooden staircase leads to the attic, which can serve as a relaxation area or an office.
The house is located at the foot of Montgó, the highest peak in this part of Spain, on the southern side. Montgó, locally known as "Elephant," is a nature reserve with hiking trails and hundreds of species of plants and animals.
A flat piece of land is unusual for this coastline, which faces the Mediterranean Sea, where many houses are built along slopes and rocky cliffs. In addition to tropical plants and palm trees, the property features an olive grove, a pine forest, as well as cypress, orange, and lemon trees. A deep well and an irrigation system provide self-sufficiency for the property, which is fenced and equipped with electric gates and an alarm system.
Havéa, located in the northern part of the province of Alicante on the Costa Blanca, in the Valencia Community, offers Mediterranean Sea beaches and a port, and is situated opposite the Montgó mountain range from Denia, a major port city from which ferries to Ibiza and other Balearic Islands can be taken.
